Homework

Beacon Homework Policy

The primary purpose of homework in all key stages is to provide opportunities for children to consolidate and reinforce their in-school learning.

Maths

Teachers will set maths homework on Google Classroom. All children have a username and password for Google Classroom.

ActiveLearn (Power Maths)

Children in all Year Groups have weekly maths homework set for them on ActiveLearn. They will be given fun games and activities which will give them a chance to practise skills and recall knowledge that they have learned in class. Teachers can also see how the children are doing by seeing the results online.

Children need to access www.activelearnprimary.co.uk in order to do their homework at home. ActiveLearn have provided some information for parents about accessing their website which may be helpful:

Please note in particular that pop-ups and cookies need to be enabled for the ActiveLearn site to work. Pearson’s privacy policy is available here: https://loginstatic.pearson.com/html/PearsonPrivacyPolicy.html?

If your child is having issues logging in because they can’t remember their username and password, please contact their class teacher and we will reset their password and write it in their school diary.

Times Tables Rock Stars

As well as the weekly activities set by the teacher on ActiveLearn, all Key Stage 2 children (Years 3, 4, 5, and 6) are expected to practise their times tables at home using Times Tables Rock Stars. Children have their own username and password for their own account. We use Times Tables Rock Stars in school as well as part of the Fluency Lessons. Children in Year 4 will take part in the statutory national times tables check in the summer term. We continue to practise times tables throughout Key Stage 2 in Years 5 and 6 as well. Teachers are able to check the progress that children are making online.

English

English homework consists of daily reading in both Key Stages and the practice of English skills via the Bedrock online program in Key Stage 2. All children have a login details for Bedrock and their activity is monitored by their class teacher. Teachers set optional spelling practice of vocabulary taught in spelling lessons on the Spellingframe platform. Children each have their own Spellingframe account.

In Reception homework will include phonics, reading cards and reading work along with possibly some number activities and games.
